Wilborn "The Patros" - Torrefied Sitka Spruce/Macassar Ebony (2016)

Now here is a unique, and uniquely gorgeous, guitar by luthier Ben Wilborn out of Reno, NV.  "The Patros" is the largest option from Wilborn's "Period" series of guitars, with a nearly 17 inch wide lower bout and a huge, deep and rich voice.  This guitar, built in 2016 with torrefied Sitka Spruce for the soundboard and beautiful Macassar Ebony for the body, is very special.  Other features include cocobolo bindings and headstock overlay, a soundport, a forearm bevel, Gaboon ebony fingerboard and bridge, and a custom inlay on the fingerboard of the Chinese character Fú, which translates to "blessings" or "good fortune".  

The back of the guitar is four piece Macassar Ebony.  Early after it's build, there was a split along one of its glue lines.  Ben Wilborn performed the repair and it is now safely cleated and fully stable.

Here is Wilborn's description of this model:   The Patros, as the name suggests, is the Papa of this family. This is a big guitar, at 16-7/8” across the lower bout. A tremendously voiced 6 string, this platform also works well for 12 strings or Baritone configurations.  With a body this large, boasting this much wood to amplify string energy, the Patros looks down from its throne and laughs at the feeble efforts of Dreadnoughts and Jumbos. A great flat picker’s guitar, it also does well as a near-symphonic accompaniment for a singer/songwriter solo act.
