Introduced in 1978, the FTC Model reflects one of Santa Cruz Guitar Company's earliest explorations beyond traditional flat-top design. Conceived during a time of experimentation in the company's formative years, it paired a flat top with an arched back—bringing a new level of focus, projection, and tonal complexity to the steel-string guitar. Among its earliest advocates was Eric Clapton, who acquired one of the original instruments—an early affirmation of the model's unique voice and the direction it represented. Distinct and forward-thinking, the FTC stood apart from convention, embodying a willingness to challenge expectations in pursuit of balance, clarity, and expressive range. Our 50th Anniversary FTC honors that spirit of innovation—celebrating a design that helped define the adventurous early years of Santa Cruz Guitar Company.
